I am on my third summer of growing flowers out on our land and it's quickly become my favorite hobby. I absolutely love going out to the garden each morning to work in that space and just enjoy the beauty of it.
I planted two large beds of Dahlias (all from seeds that I started inside), two large beds of Zinnias (multiple varieties), half a bed of snapdragons, half a bed of feverfew, half a bed of Celosia and half a bed of sunflowers. The Celosia has been such a pleasant surprise this summer - it's just stunning and it lasts FOREVER in a vase. I have been collecting seeds for next year and also making little baggies of seeds for family and friends. The Dahlias are temperamental but gorgeous - they bloomed early and then didnt do much a majority of the summer in the heat and now they're blooming again. I love how long zinnias last in a vase so I always make sure to plant a lot of them. Sadly they're pretty susceptible to leaf spot and powdery mildew - even with spraying! I did plant more just a few weeks ago so they'll hopefully last through the Fall.
I have had a steady stream of flowers blooming since May so I have been able to share lots and lots of arrangements. It's become a little ministry for me!! Yesterday we shared our 50th arrangement with my daughters gymnastic teacher. I am hoping we continue to get blooms into the Fall so we can continuing to enjoy them and surprise people with them.
Here are a few of my favorite arrangements I've shared this summer.
