One of our favorite things to make over the summer is homemade ice cream. It is seriously so easy to make and absolutely delicious. The investment for a nice ice cream maker is well worth it!! We have the Cuisnart Ice Cream Maker and it's $100 on Amazon right now.
I'll share the recipe for the vanilla base we use but it's fun to experiment with the mix-in's. Our favorite one is Oreo - its divine. My Mom uses her machine all the time and makes all sorts of yummy flavors like strawberry, butterfinger, mocha, etc.
Vanilla Base Recipe
- 3 cups of heavy cream
- 1.5 cups of milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1.5 tablespoons of vanilla
Instructions
- Using a hand mixer, combine milk and sugar in a mixing bowl and mix for about 1-2 minutes
- Add in the heavy cream and vanilla and stir altogether
- Turn on the ice cream maker and pour the mixture in through the top
- Mix for about 20 minutes
- Add the topping/ mix- ins and continue to mix for about 3 minutes
- Pour the mix into a plastic container and store in the freezer
*I try to make it at least 3 hours before we want to enjoy it so it's nice and frozen
